Advocating for Civil, Human and, Migrants Rights

The need to eradicate injustice and oppression against the minority groups and also the weak is what has instigated the formation of numerous advocacy groups. Even if vices such as lack of empathy and corruption cannot be brought into a halt, there are continuous calls to increase social awareness so as to treat everyone equal. The following are some of the few outstanding advocacy groups that have been in the frontline in the fight for human rights:

One of the advocacy groups in the frontline is the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund. It’s a foundation that was found by two journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. They are also the co-founders of Phoenix News Times and Village Voice Media. Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund was formed with the main goal of ending mass incarceration in Arizona.

Most of this group’s meetings are centered on discussing the measures that can be taken to curb separating individuals and families whose efforts may be halted from working together to better their lives. In Arizona, the criminal Justice System is in the process involved in wrongful arrests of two journalists Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.

They were jailed by Sherriff Joe Arpaio after they broadcasted an article and notes involving the Sheriff thus revealing the existence of grand jury proceedings.

Later, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin successfully sued the county in the court of appeal in the United States. They were compensated $3.75 million. They dedicated this money which was meant for settlement in funding the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. Read more: Michael Lacey | Facebook and Jim Larkin | LinkedIn

The foundation gives support to other groups that advocate and fight for civil, human, and migrant’s rights. Also civil participation and freedom of speech is highly sought for throughout Arizona.

Another renowned group is the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA). It’s based in California. It champions for the rights of immigrant individuals as well as families.

It has been in the frontline in promoting a world where individuals utilize their rights by participating in democracy as well as freedom of mobility. CHIRLA has shown its commitments by creating a society that accommodates all irrespective of mere basis.

American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has also been in existence for more than 25 years. It’s committed in expanding and enforcing civil rights of immigrants and civil liberties. Over the years it has been involved in legal battles by rejecting laws that prevent immigrants from accessing justice system.
